What are Alkaline Earth Metals? Define Alkaline Earth Metals Alkaline Earth Metals are used as a term in Periodic Chemistry when classifying the chemical elements. Each element can usually be classified as a metal or a non-metal based on their general Physical and Chemical Properties. These metals are any of the metallic elements within Group 2 in the Periodic Table (see the List of Alkaline metals). The name Alkaline Earth Metals refer to their oxides that simply give basic alkaline solutions. They are reactive and widely distributed in rock structures. |
What are Alkaline Earth Metals? Common Properties of Alkaline Earth Metals Alkaline metals are usually shiny solids that conduct heat or electricity and can be formed into sheets. With the exception of beryllium and magnesium, the metals have a distinguishable flame color, orange for calcium, bright red for strontium, green for barium and crimson red for radium. Nearly 75% of all the elements in the Periodic Table are classified as metals which are detailed in the List of Metals. Common properties of Alkaline Earth metals
